It was Kismet

Greetings from San Francisco! Taking tons of food notes, but with three more days here that post will have to wait. First I must recap Kismet, NY.

Our trip to Fire Island was definitely a success, and you know it was a good time because other than coming home with more bruises, freckles, and double vision in one eye (a solid night's rest set that to rights tho), I only managed to take pictures on the first night we were there.

And it was a good night.
Most of the night was spent dancing on the table.

Some strange fairy/ghost crashed the party pictures too...
As well as dancing on futons and belting songs along with the stereo.
The instigators of the Table Dancing, also the friends that invited us out there ;)

Proof I was actually there and these aren't stolen photos
The house we stayed in happens to have the highest roof around, which is a deck, so the sunsets are quite excellent.

The end.

P.S. - There was also teriyaki steak, roasted potatoes, salads, "Bob rice", green beans, tomatoes, mangos, plums, flounder two ways, just about anything you could possibly want to snack on, and many many many many drinks.

P.P.S - We also spent three lovely days on the beach, but the effort of lifting a camera at that point was just too much. Had to conserve for nighttime shenanigans. See above.

Weekend Wrap-Up, Even Tho It's Still Going...

The Rock'n'Roll part of my title is in full effect this weekend. Gourmet, not to be outdone, includes dinners I've eaten while out.

Friday Night - drinks with one friend, with munchies like a crostini of chicken liver paté w/ caramelized onions, and a pizzetta with speck and manilla clams. Delish.  Dinner with another friend, in spite of the pouring rain, included bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin, BBQ'd pork belly, and olive oil poached black cod.
And I did not take photos as I do not have the subtlety of an iPhone, or even a "smart" phone.

Saturday Night - Made a large pot of potato-leek soup (will post shortly) followed by Bachelorette Partying in Brooklyn with designer pizza and schmancy drinks.
Lots of schmancy drinks
Aaaand my husband crashed the party because the bride is one of his best friends. And it was an excuse for him to hang out at Barcade for a while. (He got yesterday's high score on Ms. Pac Man. At least as of 11PM. He was quite proud.)

Sunday Night - I plan on making some fabulous chicken thighs and roasted vegetables. I just haven't figured out the "fabulous" aspect just yet.
Later tonight, there will be a Karaoke Birthday party for my friend Lucas. His birthdays are usually pretty epic, and he's one of the nicest (and hottest) humans I know. The hot thing is secondary, like icing on the cake.
A rather hot cake that we make take off his shirt whenever he's singing.
If you're good, I'll post pics of that later too... ;)
When I wake up from the coma-nap I'm going to need to take on Monday.

Going Bananas, Late-Night

What's more fun than curling up in bed at 10PM and watching old Haunted House movies on TCM?
Making banana bread!

Ok well not really but for some reason that's what I ended up doing tonight. Sure, sure, most people like to bake when the sun is still up. Once you've cleaned up dinner, you're done with the kitchen for the night.
Not in this house. In this house we've been known to make lamb chops at midnight, and steak at 1AM. And by "we" I mean me. And they are FABULOUS! And really what man would complain that you were cooking extra deliciousness at an odd hour of the night, so long as he's still awake to enjoy it?
Tonight I just couldn't stand looking at those almost-black bananas anymore. I had promised Mike that I would turn them into banana bread but I just was unmotivated during daylight hours. And there's nothing like a less-than-suspenseful old movie and the Marquis to make you feel like doing something in the kitchen. That, and eating at very random intervals during the day.
So in under 15 min I had everything going in the oven. Tho I admit it is the most basic of banana bread recipes. No nuts (I loathe walnuts) and no chocolate chips. Just straight-up plain but it comes out moist and delicious. And the apartment smells great!

It's not exciting to describe. There's the usual "creaming" of the bananas & sugar & eggs.

Addition of flour and varying sodas, cinnamon & vanilla, oil.

Distribute.

Magic! They're done! (with 1 measly hour baking...)

Enjoy!

Not an exciting post, I grant you. But Mike is extremely excited for the slice or two that I will include in his lunch tomorrow.

And whatever he is pilfering from the kitchen as I type this up...
